We Support ALL Youth! We Support CHYA!

Dear Board President Dr. Ken Williams and Trustees of the Orange County Board of Education,

The undersigned are writing to express our grave concern regarding the proposed California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA) forum scheduled for September 26 at the Orange County Department of Education. We also find it extremely disturbing that the OC Board of Education has voted to use tax-payer dollars to fly in panelists from Texas, Utah and Oregon for the this forum, which is about a California law. What is even more alarming is that only two of the Trustees, Board President Dr. Ken Williams and Trustee Sparks, know the names or qualifications of said experts who will remain anonymous until the day of the event.

As individuals and organizations dedicated to supporting the wellbeing and academic success of ALL students in Orange County and across the state, we are further dismayed by the ongoing delay in fully implementing CHYA.

Given that the overwhelming opposition to this forum by multiple community members and leaders has been ignored, the undersigned organizations and individuals will not support or attend, nor will we encourage others to attend, this forum.

Rather, we believe that the Orange County Board of Education Trustees would benefit by engaging in productive and factually based discussions and education about CHYA and the State-approved curriculums, as well as education about LGBTQ youth, who have unjustly and viciously been put under attack.

The undersigned are unequivocal in opposing the September 26 CHYA forum proposed by Orange County Board of Education President Dr. Ken Williams and demand that CHYA, a law that was passed in 2016, be immediately implemented.
